Brian began his career in New Scotland Yard in 1967 as a general forensic scientist. After working in various chemistry based sections, he transferred to the firearms section where he remained for the rest of his career as Deputy Head of the section.
In 1977 Brian left New Scotland Yard to move to Hong Kong where he remained for the next 25 years, retiring as Director of the Hong Kong Forensic Firearms Laboratory at the UK equivalent rank of Chief Superintendent.
