Throughout a year, Magnum photographer Chris Steele-Perkins photographed at Holkham Hall not only the various traditional and “obvious” activities like hunting and shooting, but the full gamut of activities through to holiday homes, pop concerts and weddings.
Beyond that, Chris was obviously fascinated by the people of the estate: not just the family, but the groups of workers that form the backbone of day to day life on the estate and whose activities and interactions are captured beautifully and sometimes movingly by the camera.
